Marathon Ashland Petroleum and TechSol Chemical Co.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Marathon Ashland Petroleum and TechSol Chemical Co. on behalf of residents of Huntington, West Virginia. The suit was filed following the Oct 28, 2004 chemical leak which forced the evacuation of about 500 homes. A defective valve caused the spill at TechSol Chemical as workers were about to transfer the coal tar distillates from a railroad tanker to a truck for shipment to a Marathon Ashland Petroleum Refinery near Catlettsburg, Ky. The suit alleges that the companies have not taken the necessary steps to protect the community from the spilled coal tar light oil, which contains benzene, toluene, xylene, naphthalene, indene and z-methylnapthalene.
