A class action lawsuit alleging violations of the State of Michigan Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act has been filed against U.S. Steel Corp. on behalf of the residents of Ecorse, River Rouge and southwest Detroit. The suit is demanding increased pollution controls and unspecified damages for residents whose health has been affected by emissions from the company's Great Lakes Works on the Detroit River, which has been cited many times for emitting large amounts of manganese and other toxic elements.
