Class action status is being sought in a lawsuit filed against Premcor Refining Group by a group of Hartford, Illinois residents who claim that there is a plume of 4 million gallons of gasoline beneath the village. Premcor formerly operated a refinery in Hartford, and the residents claim "Premcor and the other defendants released and/or maintained these (petroleum) products, creating a toxic, underground plume, which has destroyed the value of real estate in Hartford and has placed in serious jeopardy the health of Hartford's resident." The other defendants include ConocoPhillips Wood River refinery, Apex Oil Co and Clark Oil and Refining. This suit was filed on by residents of Hartford, Illinois who claim that Premcor Refining Group is responsible for a plume of 4 million gallons of gasoline beneath their village.
