Class action status may now be sought in a lawsuit filed against a number of multinational vitamin companies in Australia. The suit alleges that the Australian, Asian and European arms of Roche, BASF and Aventis were involved in price fixing of the animal grade vitamins in the 1990s, resulting in losses for many businesses, specifically those in the animal food industry and small farmers. The companies made an appeal stating that the Australian courts have no jurisdiction over international companies, and therefore the case should not be allowed to proceed, however the Federal Court in Melbourne has dismissed their appeal.
