Zeon Chemicals, OxyVinyls and American Synthetic Rubber Co.

In May 2006, separate lawsuits claimed that pollution from chemical plants along the Ohio River made residents sick and lowered their property values. With three new suits added, a total of five class action lawsuits have been filed against the Rubbertown-area plants. A lawsuit against American Synthetic Rubber was filed in Jefferson Circuit and the other two actions were filed in U.S. District Court in Louisville. One of the chemical companies, American Synthetic Rubber, is alleged to cause air emissions of Butadiene, a cancer-causing chemical.
