Tamoxifen

FDA Public Health Advisory

In April, 1994 The Food and Drug Administration announced a stronger warning to women and doctors that Tamoxifen, an anti-cancer drug used in treatment of breast cancer, poses an increased risk of cancer of the uterus. "Tamoxifen is a valuable treatment for breast cancer, but it is important for women to recognize that there are side effects including an increased risk of cancer of the uterus," said FDA Commissioner David A. Kessler, M.D.

A study in Sweden, which has now followed participants for about nine years, showed that breast cancer patients who take tamoxifen have a higher risk of uterine cancer than had been suggested on the basis of earlier research.

In the latest results of this study, 23 of the 1,372 patients randomized to take Tamoxifen developed the disease, compared with 4 of the 1,357 patients in the control group.

It is now believed that by cutting estrogens (Tamoxifen does that) you increase chances of dementia. My mom took it for 5 years and she has lost all her mental capabilities. I am looking for a group suing Tamoxifen for this. Side effects are not to be ignored.

My mother passed away on December 5th, 2017, she was 61 years old and developed a rare aggressive form of uterine cancer called uterine carcinosarcoma. She took tamoxifen for almost five years for breast cancer. She was never warned about the possibility of developing uterine cancer. Her death could have been avoided had she been warned by doctors of the risk of developing uterine cancer she should have had a hysterectomy as a precautionary method. I do not recommend tamoxifen to anyone I lost my mom because of this drug and incompetent doctors. Please do not take this drug and if you did get checked up before it’s too late.

Hello,

My mother was diagnosed in 2009 with breast cancer, took Tamoxifen for four almost five years and was recently diagnosed in January 2017 with stage 3 uterine carcinosarcoma. This cancer is very rare and extremely aggressive. She had to undergo a total hysterectomy, 6 rounds of aggressive chemo, and is now in the process of starting radiation. This could all have been prevented if the doctors could have warned her of the dangers she could have underwent a hysterectomy when she started the medication since there was a risk of developing uterine cancer.

I just want to warn you guys of the dangers of taking Tamoxifen if you must take it speak with your specialist as to what can be done so you don't suffer the consequences later on.

Hello,
In 2011 i have been diagnosed with DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma in Situ) I have had a lumpectomy, and have been placed on Tamoxifen. After 4 1/2 years I was diagnosed with bilateral avascular necrosis, and also a pretty worrisome appearance of my uterus, which prompted a D 7 C and biopsy. The result was benign. Had to stop tamoxifen. I am reading that in my age group, female, after 60, out of 8xxx patients taking this medication, 7xx developed AVN. One of tamoxifen's side effects is blood clots, which may have blocked the vessels, and killed the blood circulation.

I had breast cancer 6 years ago. No side effects were told to me. I now understand that it can effect your bones. I have had to have 2 hip replacements.
I recently read it can cateracts. I have 2 with one fixed. I cannot afford the other surgery.
I recently had to have 2 biopsies for uterine cancer. Thank God they were negative, but I was terrified for 2 weeks waiting for the results.
Can you help me?

In June, 2007 I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ for which I had a mastectomy and a 5 year regimen of Tamoxifen.ending in December, 2012. I was not informed of the possible side effect of uterine cancer. In June, 2015 I was diagnosed with uterine carcinosarcoma for which I had a radical hysterectomy/ovectomy, followed by chemotherapy and radiation. After all this, I have been reading that DCIS is considered Stage 0 and in some medical circles would not even be considered for surgery! Now I'm wondering if everything I went through could have been avoided.

I have been on Tamoxifen since 2008 after treatment of r stage 2 breast cancer. My doctor told me it was a safe dreu and that it would help keep my breast cancer from recurring even though I ha a double mastectomy with trimflap tissue removed from my stomach to rebuild my breast didn't think I need anything considering that. 2/1/16 will have a D n C biopsy from there Hysterectomy remove ovaries possible cervix as well.By GYN. Had I know the side effects I would have never taken it.

I have been on Tamoxifen for 4 years after treatment for stage 1 breast cancer. My doctor told me it was a safe drug and that it would help keep my breast cancer from recurring. I was diagnosed this week with grade 1 uterine cancer. I have to have a hysterectomy and lymph node samples taken this week at a gynocological oncologist. Had I known the severe side effects of this "life saving" drug, I would never had taken it. Now I don't know what to do.
