Tribune Co.

A lawsuit has been filed and is seeking class action status against the newspaper publisher for allegedly refusing to pay minimum wage and overtime to its newspaper distributors. The lawsuit was filed in US District Court in Manhattan (then removed and filed in state court) on behalf of current and former employees for the ribune over the past three years.

The company publishes the free newspaper am New York. And through another defendant (s). distributes that newspaper.

Employees are paid $21 a day. After four hours, they receive an additional $1.50 per bundle. Some employees work 5 hours and therefore the lawsuit claims Tribune fails to meet the minimum wage standards of the state of New York.

"These people aren't making a lot of money anyway so why wouldn't you pay them according to minimum wage?" says lawyer Maimon Kirschenbaum. "We currently have about 10 eople signed up and we are constantly receiving more information from other promoters who also work for distributors of AM New York and they are paid well below New York minimum wage."
