United Airlines and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers

Class action certification is being sought for a lawsuit filed against United Airlines on behalf of up to 200 former employees of the company's recently closed maintenance bases in Indianapolis and Oakland, California. The suit alleges that United violated its labor agreement by not offering the mechanics transfers when the bases closed, even though most of them had worked for the company for longer than 10 years. Furthermore, the company did offer transfers to mechanics with less seniority. Also listed as a defendant in the case is the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, with the plaintiffs alleging that their union did not try to stop the company from making the layoffs.
