A class-action lawsuit has been filed against the University System of Maryland alleging a violation of contract between college and students because of a midyear tuition hike. The plaintiffs are demanding the return of the $13 million students are paying in extra tuition this semester.

The plaintiffs claim that they enrolled with the understanding they would be charged the same fixed rate that had been set for the year.
