The U.S. Department of Labor filed a class action lawsuit against the corporation on behalf of former employees. The lawsuit claimed Enron and top executives violated federal law by failing to consider whether Enron stock was an appropriate investment for workers' retirement plans and standing by while the plans lost millions of dollars in value. Enron has agreed to award former employees a $133.9 million class action settlement; $124.6 million will come from Bear Stearns Investment Products Inc. (Feb-17-06)
