General Motors Company

In 2004 a resident near the former GM plant (now owned by Delphi) at 2100 Burlingame Ave in the Grand Rapids suburb of Wyoming received a notice stating vinyl chloride, a cancer-causing chemical, had leaked and contaminated a large area of land. A class action lawsuit was filed against the automaker on her behalf. General Motors will pay residents shares of a $1.2 million groundwater-contamination settlement reached with General Motors Corp. -- if they step forward by Aug. 11. Any unclaimed money will be refunded to the automaker. Eligible residents must submit a copy of their deed or land contract and proof of identification by August 11. (Jul-28-06) [KALAMAZOO GAZETTE]
