Arizona Department of Public Safety

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of eleven Black and Latino motorists alleging racial profiling by patrol officers along Arizona highways. The lawsuit claimed law enforcement officials engaged in a continuing pattern and practice of race-based traffic stops, detentions and searches of non-white motorists throughout Arizona. According to the class action settlement, the Department of Public Safety agreed to collect and analyze statistical data relating to traffic stops and vehicle searches statewide.
