Kmart Corp.

A class action lawsuit was filed against the retail chain store regarding access for disabled shoppers. Kmart allegedly violated federal standards for merchandise, counters, restrooms, fitting rooms and parking lots. A U.S. District Court in Denver has approved a $13 million class action settlement that will award class members in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon and Texas $8 million in cash and $5 million in gift cards. Kmart has 7 1/2 years to bring all of its stores nationwide into compliance with federal standards. (Mar-13-06) [HOUSTON CHRONICLE]
