Menu Foods pays $240,000 settlement in tainted pet food lawsuit.

Honolulu, HI: (May-21-08) A class action lawsuit was brought against pet food manufacturer Menu Food, accusing it of selling contaminated pet food to Hawaii pet owners in 2007. The suit, filed by several pet owners, whose pets suffered after consuming the popular, yet contaminated pet food. Sources announced that the company has reached a settlement, in which they agreed to set up a $240,000 fund. Menu Food's spokespersons said that the fund will reimburse the cost of recalled pet food as well as veterinary examinations that were conducted to verify the health of pets following Menu Food's announcement of its recall. Legal counsel stated that the settlement is only for owners of pets that did not suffer injury or die. Where there was injury or death, the cases will be separately handled in state court. Legal sources estimated that several thousand pet owners might be eligible to participate in the class action settlement.
