Gannett Co., Inc. Class Action Dismissed

On January 13, 2004, two Tucson men tried to file a class action lawsuit against the Tucson Citizen newspaper regarding a letter printed December 2, 2003 about deadly attacks against U.S. troops in Iraq. The newspaper published a letter that suggested a proper response for the killing of American soldiers in Iraq would be to go to the nearest mosque and kill five Muslims. The Supreme Court unanimously reversed a Pima County Superior Court judge's ruling in the case from Tucson and ordered that the lower court dismiss the lawsuit accusing the Tucson Citizen of distressing residents by printing the letter.
