North Mississippi Medical System.

A settlement has been reached in the class action lawsuit filed on behalf of uninsured patients. The hospital system has agreed to implement a new policy to provide discounted or free care to uninsured patients, commencing October 1, 2004. The settlement is the first of this kind following a wave of class action lawsuits that were filed against 40 hospital systems, hospitals and the American Hospital Association. The suits allege that the defendants have breached their obligation to provide government-mandated charity care to uninsured patients. (Aug-05-04) [PR NEWSWIRE]
