Hundreds of McIntosh residents tried to file a class action lawsuit against the company over alleged mercury pollution on their property. Olin used mercury to produce chlorine at its south Alabama plant for more than 20 years, but the use of the harmful chemical ended in 1974 and the plant closed in 1982. A federal judge has denied class action status, yet the plaintiffs' lawyer plans to appeal the decision. (Nov-18-05)
