Education Department of Pennsylvania

Class action lawsuit settled against Pennsylvania state Education Department for $2 million. The complaint was brought against the school system in 1994 alleging that the public schools segregated disabled students from regular classrooms. The settlement will include $350,000 for the families of affected students and $1.8 million to cover the plaintiffs legal fees. The department will also put into place a five-year monitoring system to ensure that all schools are complying with the law which states that disabled students are to be included in regular classrooms whenever possible.
