Baldwin, Mobile and Jefferson County Class Action Dismissed

A lawsuit seeking class action status was filed against the three counties attacking rules requiring owners to pay 12% annual interest on the amounts that investors bid to win liens on the properties at public auctions. Residents not from Alabama placed bids on properties from the counties and often out bid local dwellers. U.S. District Judge William Steele has dismissed a lawsuit and ruled that the federal courts do not have jurisdiction in the matter. (Jul-28-06) [PRESS REGISTER]
