Roofing Fumes

Iberia, LA: (Jan-10-08) A class action lawsuit was filed against the New Iberia Senior High School, after over 600 people were exposed to chemicals at the school. The suit, filed by students, teachers, and school employees, claimed that they suffered debilitating effects after being exposed to fumes from materials used in a roofing project. The class action also named Crown Roofing and Honeywell as defendants in the suit. Sources stated that the defendants were lucky that there were no life-threatening injuries because of the fumes from Armorflex, a product applied to the roof. Fumes seeped back into the windowless high school during a roofing repair project made the people on campus sick.

As part of a tentative settlement reached, the over 600 class members stand to receive $1.6 million. Official said that the settlement is not in effect until a hearing before state Judge William Hunter on February 21, 2008 in New Iberia. If the settlement is approved, disbursement of funds could happen in the summer. [KATC NEWS: ROOFING FUMES]
