Sempra Energy

Los Angeles County, Burbank, Culver City, Glendale, Upland and Vernon, San Bernardino County, Edgington Oil, Imperial Irrigation District, World Oil Corporation, Demenno-Kerdoon, and Lunday-Thaggard Company filed a class action lawsuit against Southern California Gas Co., San Diego Gas & Electric Co. and their parent company, Sempra Energy. The case claimed the utilities company manipulated the newly deregulated energy market that led to California's power crisis in 2000 and 2001. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors authorized a $4.6 million settlement; however, the final settlement was for an undisclosed amount. (Oct-29-05) [DATELINE ALABAMA]
