Two Kentucky counties settle strip search class action lawsuits

Hopkins County and Bullitt County have agreed to settle strip search class action lawsuits for $3 million and $800,000 respectively.

More than 1,000 people who were booked into jail on minor offenses such as theft and driving under the influence were represented by attorney Greg Belzley who claimed that federal and state laws ban "blanket strip searches" of new inmates with non-violent or non-drug charges.

Most of the claimants will receive up to $2,500 if they were strip searched both at booking and release.
