More than 1,300 former prisoners filed a class action lawsuit against the jail claiming they were illegally strip searched between 1996 and 2004. The class was awarded a $3.3 million class action settlement. However, nearly 300 of the class members owed child support; the state recovered $463,000 of the settlement to pay the children's families. (Jan-24-06)
