A now-outdated Elidel TV commercial making the rounds on YouTube is a light-hearted treatment with plenty of friendly faces (including children) and an embracing voiceover expounding the virtues of the non-steroid Elidel Cream. "You can use Elidel for repeated courses as directed by your doctor," the commercial claims.

Washington, DC It's hard to know what to think about Elidel, the topical medication so often used to treat rosacea, eczema, and atopic dermatitis (AD). Pimecrolimus (Elidel, manufactured by Novartis) is a topical immunosuppressant calcineurin inhibitor that is popular in part because it is steroid-free. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has since mandated a black box warning for Elidel and other so-called eczema creams in the same class, due to fears over a potential link to cancer.
